Los Angeles Psychoanalytic Society & Institute
Library

The Simmel-Fenichel Library of the Los Angeles Psychoanalytic Society and Institute, founded in 1953, has one of the most extensive psychoanalytic collections of journals, serial publications, reference materials and books on the West Coast. Its original collection came primarily from the libraries of the late Dr. Ernst Simmel and the Psychoanalytic Study Group of Los Angeles. Since LAPSI completed a $40,000 library renovation last year, more than 3,500 books have become accessible by computer according to author, title, subject or key word. The library also has a copy of the American Psychoanalytic Association’s new CD-ROM, containing the entire output of six major journals (including JAPA, The International Journal of Psychoanalysis and the Psychoanalytic Study of the Child) from inception through 1994. The CD-ROM includes a state-of-the-art search engine.

If desired, library patrons can contract literature searches privately through the LAPSI administrative staff.

SPECIAL COLLECTIONS
Unique to the Simmel-Fenichel library is the Robert Stoller Memorial Collection. LAPSI is fortunate to have representative volumes of seminal works that inspired Dr. Stoller’s scholarly writings.
